How to Cure a Child's Stomach Ache

STEPS

1
Try to figure out why they have a stomach ache. Did they drink too much soda? Eat too much food? Do they have other symptoms?

2
Stomach aches can be very serious! If you find out that your child has swallowed a dangerous chemical or eaten something they shouldn't have, like a medicine tablet, call your local poison control center.

3
Does your child have other symptoms besides a sore stomach? Are they constipated, throwing up, or have a fever? Take the child's temperature and call the child's doctor or a local nurse line (most hospitals have a free nurse line, but usually only say to go to the hospital or doctor's office.) for advice.

  1. 4
If it is just a simple tummy ache, there are several things you can do:
5
You can give them an over the counter children's stomach ache remedy.
6
Tell them to lie down on their side. Encourage rest and sleeping.
7
Have them drink a glass of water, but slowly. Stomach aches can occur when there is an acidity imbalance in the stomach due to the digestion of certain food/drinks and in certain combinations. Drinking lots of water will naturally dilute this imbalance (by comparison, over the counter stomach ache remedies work by neutralizing the acid in your stomach)
8
Give them papaya, ginger or peppermint (in any form - fresh or dried, ingredient in foods, candy peppermints, or a chewable papaya pill found mostly at natural food stores).
9
Distract them with a story or movie.
